Cowboy Action Shooting (“CAS”) is the fastest growing shooting sport. CAS involves using guns of the old west while dressed in period clothing. Firearms are those you will see in any western movie: Colt single action revolvers, Winchester lever action rifles, double barreled shotguns.
Metal targets are big and easy to hit and move and clang when struck. Speed and ability to fire at targets and move quickly according to a shooting scenario separates the tenderfoot from the gunfighter.
Scenarios are classically corney: cattle rustlers are stealing your herd, a bank is being robbed, a stagecoach has been held up. You are the good guy and good gal and it’s your duty to bring justice to the lawless just as in your favorite childhood sitcoms Gunsmoke, The Big Valley and Bonanza!
