Shooting Sports are Very Popular!
Shooting is among the most popular sporting games in America with over 40 million people participating. According to a 2001 Roper Starch survey, nearly half of people aged 18-29 would go target shooting if asked by a friend. The number of women who participate (7 million) is about equal to those who ski.
Shooting Sports are Egalitarian!
Men and women compete as equals since concentration, eye-hand coordination, fine motor skills, and reflexes are much more important than pure physical strength. Shooting is largely a mental game and “levels the playing field” between people of various physical shapes and strengths. Moreover, many shooting sports are accessible to the handicapped.
Compared to most sports that put a premium on a certain physical abilities that comparatively few people possess (e.g. basketball, gymnastics), many people possess or can develop the necessary skills to do well in shooting.
Shooting Sports are Confidence Building!
Becoming proficient in the proper and safe use of arms is extraordinarily empowering and confidence building. To become good at shooting, you learn not only the requisite physical skills, but also the discipline, responsibility, mental focus and controlled temperament that are hallmarks of distinguished shooters. Developing these attributes are valuable in all aspects of one’s life.
Shooting Sports are a Lifetime Skill!
It can be practiced alone or on teams and participation lasts well into one’s senior years.
