Trap, Skeet, Sporting Clays
Shotgun shoots involve shooting at a moving aerial target made of breakable clay. They are among the most visually appealing and the most challenging of the shooting sports. Trap shooting involves firing at clays that always move away from the shooter on unpredictable paths. The clays are machine thrown from a small, squat structure (“trap house”) in front of the shooter. You do not know where it is going and you need to be quick on target before it sails out of range.
In skeet shooting, clays are thrown on the same flight path from two houses. However, since the shooter moves around the skeet field to fire from each of eight shooting stations, he or she is presented with a much different looking target as the angle to the target is different at each station.
Sporting clays is much like golf and involves shooting at a variety of challenging moving airborne and grounded clays from shooting stations arrayed in field and forest settings. Clays may appear in tandem or following each other and come from different places with much different flight paths. Sporting clays is the most challenging shotgun shooting event going.
