Our events are very popular with women, and they comprised over half of the guests at our 2003 shooting excursions. Typical reasons cited were a “strong curiosity about shooting”, “always wanted to try this”, and “my father and brothers (or boyfriend) do this”. Another prevalent reason was that women were often excluded from being asked to go shooting because friends and family assumed they had no interest.
A 2001 Roper Starch survey is validating: nearly half of people aged 18-29 would go target shooting if asked by a friend.
Moreover, the National Shooting Sports Foundation reports that 7 million women participate in the shooting sports-- about as many as those who ski.
